See Photos from the Pumpkin the Cat Fundraiser in Tell City - WBKR

It's routinely said that cats have nine lives. But there's no doubt that, sometimes, felines get by with a little help from their friends too. And, for Pumpkin the Cat, that was certainly the case over the weekend.

Saturday was an amazing and heartwarming day in Tell City, Indiana. Local residents came out in force to rally around Pumpkin the Cat, who was severely injured recently when his pelvis was crushed after being run over by a car.  Luckily, some wonderfully kind humans came to Pumpkin's rescue and he was able to undergo extensive surgery.  He's doing well, but the likelihood remains that he will need additional treatments before he's completely back to normal.

So, Jourdan Turner, who's mom found Pumpkin after he was injured, with the help of her daughter Harlei and Harlei's friend, Elizabeth, decided to build a lemonade stand fundraiser.  Tell City Mayor Chris Cail and his partner Bradley DeHart offered to host the event in their yard and a couple of local bakers decided to offer up some goodies to add to the sale.

As the saying goes, "If you build it, they will come." The citizens of Tell City showed up in force. The showed up and showed out.

Here are some fun photos from the event!

The stand, as promised, featured some delicious lemonade.  Plus, there was also tea available for folks who preferred that.

As you can see, the lemonade stand offered more than lemonade and tea as well. It was loaded up with tempting and tasty baked goods.

So, how did the fundraiser go?  Did it turn out the way Jourdan and Harlei had hoped. Here's a little of what Jourdan shared on social media. There's no doubt that having Pumpkin on site warmed hearts and rally the troops.

Having Pumpkin up in the yard was so fun! All the kids and most of the adults walked up to meet him and see his shaved leg & stitches. He really is such a good cat - we are all praying he gets a wonderful home soon when he is ready.

And, was enough money raised to pay for Pumpkin's ongoing medical treatment? With the folks of Tell City involved, there's was zero chance the lemonade stand was going to come up shy of expectations.  In fact, the fundraiser raised even more money than expected.

Finally... To answer the popular question: "Did you raise enough for the vet bill?" - YES! And to be absolutely transparent (you know me!) What will happen is that all of Pumpkin's bills will be paid, and what is left will be held onto for a short while in hopes that he doesn't need another surgery. When/once that surgery is ruled out - what is left will go towards more spay & neutering in Perry County. Without getting on a soapbox, this is an ongoing, never ending COUNTY problem & We. ALL. Need. To. Do. Our. Part.
